How to self-exclude from sports betting in New York
New York runs one list that covers sportsbooks, commercial casinos, video lottery facilities, the Lottery and daily fantasy. There is no online signup: you enroll in person or by notarized mail. Tribal casinos are not covered.

What to do today, before the state list kicks in
Enrollment is in person or by notarized mail, and the Commission sends new names to operators within 5 days of processing. So today: self-exclude inside every sportsbook app, install a blocker, and lock your phone. Then book an appointment or get the form notarized — the NY Council on Problem Gambling can help with that.

The gaps people miss
- Tribal casinos are NOT covered. These include Seneca properties, Oneida Nation's Turning Stone, and the Akwesasne Mohawk casino. Seneca and Oneida run their own separate self-exclusion programs, so you must enroll with each one directly.
- There is no online portal. Enrolling by mail needs a notary, and NYCPG does that free.
- You cannot shorten your term once enrolled, so pick the length with care.
- Prediction-market apps (CFTC-regulated) are probably not covered by the state list.
- Offshore or unlicensed sites and sweepstakes casinos are not covered.
- The NYCPG blog says the form can be completed online through the Commission website. The Commission's own page lists only in-person and notarized mail.

- Get the Request for Voluntary Self-Exclusion form (gaming.ny.gov/voluntary-self-exclusion-request-form) or ask for it at the problem gambling intake area of any licensed NY gaming facility.
- Choose a term: 1 year, 3 years, 5 years or lifetime. The term cannot be shortened once you sign.
- Either submit the form in person at a licensed facility or at Commission headquarters in Schenectady, or mail it with a recent photograph. Mailed forms must be notarized.
- Need a notary? The NY Council on Problem Gambling's free VSE Support Program offers free notarization, including online (518-903-0217).
- The Commission adds you to the database and sends it to all regulated operators within 5 days.
What you need

How long it takes to take effect
The Commission updates the database and sends it to all regulated entities within 5 days of a new submission. Allow extra time for mail and notarization.
What happens to your balance and open bets
Do this first, whatever your state says: withdraw your balance and let open bets settle before you enroll. Getting money back afterward means dealing with an operator that is now required to refuse you.
The official page does not say how mobile sportsbook balances or open bets are handled. It does say any winnings a self-excluded person gets during the term are forfeited.
Can you get off the list early?
No. The form says: 'under no circumstances may I shorten the duration of my self-exclusion term.' A 1-, 3- or 5-year term ends automatically when it expires; to extend it, send a new notarized form within 30 days. A lifetime term is permanent.
Free blocking software in New York
