Self-exclusion by state · Louisiana
How to self-exclude from sports betting in Louisiana
Louisiana is in-person only: you sign up at one of five State Police offices. The minimum is five years, and it never ends on its own. Louisiana residents can also get Gamban free.
The short answer
The Louisiana Gaming Control Board list covers casinos and licensed sportsbooks, including the apps, for a minimum of 5 years. Enrollment is in person only, and removal needs a hearing. Video poker in bars and truck stops is not covered.
Program: Louisiana Self-Exclusion Program (Board Self-Exclusion List), run by the Louisiana Gaming Control Board (LGCB); enrollment handled by Louisiana State Police Gaming Enforcement Division. Official page →
Terms: Minimum 5 years; stays in place indefinitely until you complete formal removal

What to do today, before the state list kicks in
Find the nearest of the five State Police offices and plan a weekday visit. While you wait, exclude inside every sportsbook app, and claim the free Gamban license from the Louisiana Association on Compulsive Gambling (1-877-770-STOP).
Then read how to block each app — excluding inside the app is usually faster than any state list, and it’s the first layer of the firewall.
What the Louisiana list covers, and what it doesn’t
| Type of gambling | Status | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Online sportsbooks | Covered | LAC 42:III.301/304 apply to Chapter 10 (sports wagering) licensees and require blocking self-excluded persons 'on the sports wagering platform'; R.S. 27:605 requires platforms to check every bettor against the R.S. 27:27.1 list |
| Retail sportsbooks | Covered | |
| Casinos | Covered | Riverboat casinos, New Orleans land-based casino, racetrack slot facilities |
| Online casino | N/A | Online casino not legal in Louisiana |
| Daily fantasy / pick'em | Unconfirmed | Fantasy sports is under a different chapter of the gaming law, not listed in the self-exclusion rule's covered chapters (4, 5, 7, 10); likely not covered |
| Lottery | Not covered | |
| Video gaming machines | Not covered | The form states the self-exclusion provisions do not apply to Video Draw Poker licensees (truck stops, bars, restaurants) |
| Tribal casinos | Not covered | Tribal casinos (Coushatta, Chitimacha, Tunica-Biloxi, Jena Choctaw) are not LGCB-licensed; each tribe's own program |
| Prediction markets (Kalshi etc.) | Not covered |
The gaps people miss
- In-person only - no online, mail or phone enrollment; only 5 State Police offices, business hours only.
- It does NOT end after 5 years - you stay listed until you go through a hearing.
- Video poker at truck stops, bars and restaurants is NOT covered.
- Tribal casinos are NOT covered.
- Fantasy/pick'em and prediction-market apps are not covered - exclude in each app.
- Operators must update staff within 5 business days, so the ban may not be instant at every location.

- Separately self-exclude inside every sportsbook, fantasy and prediction-market app you use - and ask video poker locations/tribal casinos about their own options
What you need
Valid driver's license, passport or military ID; photo taken by State Police; SSN optional.
How long it takes to take effect
Effective from the date of written notice; LAC 42:III.304 requires licensees to be notified within 2 business days and to update staff within 5 business days of receiving notice - so allow up to about a week at retail locations. Mobile sportsbook timing.
What happens to your balance and open bets
Do this first, whatever your state says: withdraw your balance and let open bets settle before you enroll. Getting money back afterward means dealing with an operator that is now required to refuse you.
No rule text found on account balances or open bets. R.S. 27:27.1: a self-excluded person cannot collect winnings or recover losses from prohibited gaming; winnings are withheld and remitted to the state.
Can you get off the list early?
No removal before 5 years. After 5 years it does NOT end automatically: you must file a written request for a hearing, ideally with a mental health professional's recommendation, and the Board must find there is no longer a basis for listing. Licensees may continue to deny you even after removal.

The Betting Firewall
This is one wall. You need five.
The Louisiana list makes licensed operators refuse you. It does nothing about offshore sites, prediction-market apps, a friend’s account, or the money in your checking account. That’s what the other four layers are for.
