How to self-exclude from sports betting in Kansas
Kansas has a sports-betting list you can join online, but you have to email the regulator first to get upload access. The sports list does not ban you from casinos; the casino list covers both.
The short answer
The Kansas sports wagering exclusion covers licensed sportsbooks for 2 years, 5 years, lifetime or a period you choose. The casino program is separate and also blocks sports betting. Pending bets that win go to the state's problem-gambling fund, not to you.
Program: Sports Wagering Exclusion Program (plus separate casino Voluntary Exclusion Program, VEP), run by the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission (KRGC); Kansas Lottery is the legal operator of sports wagering. Official page →
Terms: 2 years · 5 years · Lifetime · Other period you specify (sports form)
Kansas help: 1-800-GAMBLER / 1-800-522-4700 (24/7, ksgamblinghelp.com, free treatment for Kansas residents); KRGC responsible gambling line 785-296-5800
What to do today, before the state list kicks in
Withdraw your balance first, then email the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission for upload access to the sports form. If casinos are part of the picture, enroll in the casino program instead, since it covers both. Exclude inside each app while it processes.
Then read how to block each app — excluding inside the app is usually faster than any state list, and it’s the first layer of the firewall.
What the Kansas list covers, and what it doesn’t
| Type of gambling | Status | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Online sportsbooks | Covered | |
| Retail sportsbooks | Unconfirmed | Form covers 'every sports wagering application ... under the jurisdiction of' KRGC; K.A.R. 112-201-22 applies to lottery gaming facility managers (casino sportsbooks) too, so likely yes |
| Casinos | Not covered | For the sports-only list - casinos require the separate VEP. (Reverse is true: VEP enrollees since Sept 1, 2022 are also barred from sports wagering.) |
| Online casino | N/A | Online casino not legal in Kansas |
| Daily fantasy / pick'em | Unconfirmed | Fantasy sports are not KRGC sports wagering; likely not covered |
| Lottery | Not covered | |
| Video gaming machines | N/A | |
| Tribal casinos | Not covered | KRGC FAQ: list does not cover tribal gaming |
| Prediction markets (Kalshi etc.) | Not covered |
The gaps people miss
- Sports-only list does NOT ban you from casinos - use the casino VEP (which covers both).
- Winning or pushed pending bets placed before exclusion are forfeited to the state problem gambling fund.
- Online enrollment is not instant - you must email for upload credentials first.
- Tribal casinos (4 in Kansas) are not covered.
- Kansas Lottery, fantasy/pick'em and prediction-market apps are not covered.
- KRGC's own pages conflict on casino VEP terms (2 years/lifetime vs 'minimum five years').
How to enroll in Kansas
| Way to enroll | Available? | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Online | Yes | Via secure document upload (you must first email KRGC to get upload credentials; not an instant web form) |
| In person | Unconfirmed | For the sports list itself. Casino VEP enrollment is in person at any of the 4 state-owned casinos (no appointment) or KRGC Topeka office (by appointment, 785-296-5800) - and VEP enrollees are also excluded from sports wagering. |
| By mail | Unconfirmed | KRGC page describes only the secure upload |
| By phone or video | No |
- Download and fill out the Sports Wagering Exclusion Form (https://krgc.kansas.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Sports_Wagering_Exclusion_Form.pdf); pick 2 years, 5 years, lifetime or another period
- Take a photo of your government-issued photo ID
- Email [email protected] to request secure upload access (do NOT email the documents themselves)
- Upload the form and ID through the secure (Serv-U) link you receive
- Or, to be banned from both casinos and sports betting, enroll in the casino Voluntary Exclusion Program in person at a Kansas casino or KRGC Topeka
- Call KRGC at 785-296-5800 if you get stuck
What you need
Government-issued photo ID (driver's license or equivalent).
How long it takes to take effect
Once KRGC processes it, K.A.R. 112-201-22 requires that 'immediately upon executing' the exclusion no new wagers or deposits are accepted. KRGC processing time after upload.
What happens to your balance and open bets
Do this first, whatever your state says: withdraw your balance and let open bets settle before you enroll. Getting money back afterward means dealing with an operator that is now required to refuse you.
You may withdraw your cleared account balance (K.A.R. 112-201-22). Pending bets still settle - but if a pending bet wins or pushes, the money goes to the Kansas problem gambling grant fund, not to you (K.A.R. 112-201-5). All active sports wagering accounts are disabled and new accounts prohibited.
Can you get off the list early?
For the sports list - removal/revocation procedure not published on the KRGC sports page or form. Casino VEP: 2-year or lifetime; petition for removal only after 2 years, requires a problem gambling assessment and completing an education course (K.A.R. 112-112-9). NOTE: KRGC's FAQ page still says 'minimum of five years' - conflicts with the program page and regulation.

The Betting Firewall
This is one wall. You need five.
The Kansas list makes licensed operators refuse you. It does nothing about offshore sites, prediction-market apps, a friend’s account, or the money in your checking account. That’s what the other four layers are for.
